Description
Instructions for Use of the Vet Expert Rapid CDV Ag Test Kit
Basic Principles
The VetExpert CDV Ag test is a chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) antigens in samples from conjunctival swabs, urine, serum, or plasma. The letters T and C on the test plate indicate the test line (T) and the control line (C). The control line (C) serves as a procedural control and should always appear if the test procedure is correctly performed and the test reagents are functioning properly. A colored test line (T) will appear in the results window if antigens are present in the sample.
- Sensitivity: 99.9%
- Specificity: 98.5%
Materials Provided (5, 10 Tests/Kit)
- 5/10 VetExpert CDV Ag test plates
- 5/10 vials with diluent solution
- 5/10 cotton swabs
- 5/10 pipettes
- Instructions for use
Precautions
- For veterinary diagnostic use only.
- Strict adherence to instructions is essential for accurate results.
- The test plate is sensitive to moisture and heat; perform the test immediately after opening the pouch.
- Test materials are single-use only.
- Do not touch the membrane in the results window.
- Do not use the test kit beyond the expiration date indicated on the package label.
- Do not use the test if the pouch is damaged.
- Do not mix test materials from different Lot numbers.
- Handle the sample as potentially infectious.
- Disinfect and dispose of all samples and materials according to local regulations.
- Consider test results invalid if read after the designated time.
Storage of the Test Kit
Store the test kit at 2 ~ 30°C. The test remains stable until the expiration date. DO NOT FREEZE. Avoid exposing the test to direct sunlight.
Sample Collection and Preparation
Conjunctival swabs, urine, serum, or plasma are suitable samples for this test. After collection, the sample should be tested immediately. If not, serum samples should be stored at 2~8°C for up to 48 hours. For longer storage, freeze samples at -20°C or lower.
Testing Procedure
- Moisten the swab with serum solution (not provided).
- Collect the sample from the conjunctiva or urine using the swab. For blood samples, use the pipette.
- Place the swab in the vial with the diluent and mix for at least 10 seconds. For serum or plasma, add 2-3 drops of the sample into the vial and mix well.
- Remove the test plate from the pouch and place it on a flat, dry surface.
- Using the pipette, add four (4) drops of the mixed sample into the sample well.
- The sample will flow into the results window. If no flow appears after 1 minute, add one more drop of diluent solution to the sample well. Read the result after 5-10 minutes.
Interpretation of the Test
- Negative Result: Only the control line (C) appears in the results window.
- Positive Result: Both the test line (T) and control line (C) appear, indicating the presence of antigens. Even a faint line indicates a positive result.
- Invalid Result: If the control line (C) does not appear, the result is invalid. The sample should be retested.
Test Limitations
Although the Vet Expert CDV Ag test is highly accurate, a small percentage of false results may occur. Additional clinical tests are recommended if the results are inconclusive. As with all diagnostic tests, a definitive clinical diagnosis should not be based solely on the results of a single test, but rather evaluated in the context of overall clinical and laboratory findings.
